The introduction

From small on I’ve been raised in a family with a deep connection to music and TV. Note setting has been a craft for three generations, starting with my grandfather. Television came about with my father and mother.
My dad had a profound interest in electronics and computers. That’s only one of the things I’ve inherited from him.

TV and Film technology

My first steps in TV started when I was young and my parents brought me to all the shootings at the STV (Slovak National Television, these days it’s called RTVS). Continuing with my university studies as a Sound Engineer, I’ve managed to get a deeper understanding of what lacks in todays TV (post)production around here and specialised in the field of IT in AV studios.

All this led me to various jobs and gigs at numerous TV shows:

  • Explozív, Bez Servítky (Come Dine with Me), Československo má talent (Got Talent), Šéfka (The Apprentice), Farma, Hotel Paradise

And TV production companies:

  • Paprika Latino, FBC Media, Vantage, NFE, JAM Film 1999, Eibner production, in out studio

Of course there were other facilities that required my computer skills but they may not be of much interest, since they do not operate in the TV business.
To name a few skills in the field of video technology, I posses profound knowledge of:

  • computer systems (both Mac and PC) – administration, software and hardware setup and troubleshooting
  • network administration and setup
  • AV broadcast technology workflow, setup and deployment (Blackmagic, AJA, Panasonic, Ateme, Ross…)
  • Avid media systems management (Media Composer, ISIS)
  • experienced user of Adobe Premiere (and CS suite), Apple Final Cut Studio, Avid Media Composer

But the trick is to know how to combine all the hardware and software available, so you get the best price-performance ratio and a fast, reliable and cost-effective workflow that suits your needs. That’s what I’m here for!

  • system planning, integration and deployment (I’ve built a few studios from ground on…)
  • workflow setup

Video editing

Since my studies I’ve focused more and more on the video side of the whole artistic craft of AV creation. Technology may be of a huge interest (and a hobby of mine) but I cannot be without video editing. To name a few of my achievements:

  • TV Markíza (trailer and promotional editor), Nikto nie je dokonalý, Wilsonic commercials, O2 press videos
  • Posledný Level (computer game TV show)
  • various small projects, music videos and documentaries

Since I know my way around the editing room, I can relate to editors and provide them with a better understanding of their needs while I provide the technical side of the production chain.
But honestly? I love to edit too!

A crucial part of the whole editing process is the preparation of the editing material. Many production companies fail to provide an experienced assistant editor that can help the video editor in many different ways.
For the past 10 years many video editors have relied on my work on projects such as:

  • Sladký život, Bez Servítky (Come Dine with Me), Československo má talent (Got Talent), Farmár hľadá ženu, Mama ožeň ma, Extrémne rodiny, Šéfka (The Apprentice), Farma, Hotel Paradise

Music score editing

As I’ve mentioned in the beginning – my family is deeply interconnected with the music world. That’s why my grandfather used to be the main copyist for the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra and his sons followed. I am now the youngest copyist in the family, sadly the last one (no woman has provided me with a son, as far as I know…).

I’ve been raised with the craft and understand many of the tricks of trade. My experience speaks for itself:

  • Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic (MKSR), Slovak Science Academy (SAV), Slovak Philharmonic, Matica slovenská
  • various orchestras and private contractors around the world (NHK)

Other

Video and technology can be combined together also in a completely different field – VJing. It’s a relatively new art form that I’ve pursued in my free time at various occasions (Wilsonic festival, viva_musica! festival).

In some cases I’m asked to be the field recordist, since that is what I’ve studied. Every now and then I create the whole soundtrack for animated movies like Čmuchal a sviňa or Alfonzova mucha.
